Description

The 2.1-mile Lindsay Pettus Greenway lies within the City of Lancaster. It is a hard surface, ADA accessible trail for walking, running and cycling. Most of the trail lies on property held by the Katawba Valley Land Trust for permanent conservation. It runs through beautiful hardwood tree canopy that is replete with wildlife. The trail features an environmental education area with a small covered pavilion for group meetings and classes, a pier overlooking constructed wetlands, a nature path with two creek observation areas, and environmental education panels illuminating the ecology and history of the area.

There are benches and bike racks along the route. The trail traverses two city parks that flank Main Street. Bike lanes on White Street connect cyclists to Lancaster's downtown district. There are two public restrooms along the trail, however they are typically open only for public events and reservation for group events. Coming soon are more environmental education amenities and a Track Trails youth activity kiosk sponsored by the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation.

Other Information

The greenway lies in a floodplain and is subject to flooding during heavy rains. Be aware of weather conditions. The trail traverses private property in several areas so please remain on the trail.

Facilities within the Greenway may be reserved by educational, civic organizations and other groups. Please visit https://lindsaypettusgreenway.org/ to find out more information on how to make reservations.
