The Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation (CRF) educates and advocates to protect the lakes, rivers and streams of the Catawba-Wateree River basin.
At the South Fork Trail trailhead sits the Boathouse, their brand new hub for engagement programs and a community gathering spot for kayakers and other outdoor enthusiasts. The building includes an outdoor gear and apparel store, a canteen with snacks soft drinks and beer and kayak rental hub.
As part of its education focus, CRF educates youth about water issues through hands-on programming a summer youth kayaking program. CRF also leads eco-tours, trains volunteers to investigate common problems, makes educational presentations to community groups and educates public officials about water issues.
CRF's advocacy efforts include meeting with elected officials and industry leaders, submitting public comments on proposed regulations and projects, and litigating as a last resort to enforce the environmental laws.
To protect our waterways, CRF conducts water/sediment sampling to test for contaminants, patrols the River, trains volunteer Water Watchers, and hosts lake and stream cleanups.
