"The Heritage Trail has two objectives: Educate the public about woodland plants native to the Piedmont and Connect with the Union County Thread Trail, maximizing recreational and transportation resources." Heritage Trail Webpage. The Boy Scout and Master Gardeners of Union County volunteers plus the Union County Rec and Park worked together to create a wonderful trail. The trail has plenty of benches to stop and appreciate the native plants and animals that call the woods their home. The trail connects to the Jesse Helms Trail for another 2.2-mile loop that crosses the Flat Branch Creek. The creek crossings may be difficult depending due to heavy rainfall.
