The Statesville Greenway will eventually encircle the city but until then, there are numerous sections available for use. The Newtonville segment of the greenway starts at the 36.13-acre Mac Anderson Park, then intersects the Newtonville Community Park, after which it travels to North Center Street. The shady trail in a 7.6-acre community park offers access to playground equipment, picnic tables, and horseshoe pits. The trail ends at the sidewalk of North Center Street in front of Statesville High School. Following the sidewalk to the left, then a right on Harness Road will take you to Lakewood Drive, where Lakewood Park and another segment of the greenway are available for use.
